Donald M. Schaeffer, CPA, JD is an owner and President of the Firm, where he specializes in representing families and their businesses utilizing his tax, estate planning, accounting and legal skills as both a CPA and attorney. Mr. Schaeffer serves as a trustee of several major family foundations as well as numerous family trusts. He is Chair of the Board of Trustees of Hofstra University and is a board member of GTJ REIT, Inc., a public Real Estate Investment Trust. Mr. Schaeffer graduated from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University School of Law. He practiced tax law in Philadelphia at the Schnader and Wolf Block law firms before moving to New York and joining a predecessor of the Firm.

In his private life, Mr. Schaeffer pursues his passion for the arts. He has written a trilogy of children’s musicals, all of which have been performed by students at the elementary school on Long Island where his son attended. More recently, he has published three children’s chapter books that have won numerous book awards, including a 2023 Global eBook Gold Medal, a 2023 and 2024 Purple Dragonfly book award, a 2024 Regal Summit Book award, a 2024 American Fiction Award, and a 2024 Next Generation Indie Book Award. He has also published a children’s picture book.

Donald and his wife, Joan Behr Schaeffer, have been married over 50 years. They enjoy spending time with their son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter.
